The Coach

Yesterday was a long day. Up at 5:00am and finally got home at about 9:30pm. For those of you that don't know I was in Kenora for the day with my basketball team. I have coached grade 7/8 girls basketball for 4 years now at Sacred Heart School. We did well considering we were playing against a few schools with a much bigger population. We managed to go 1-2 that included an overtime win. I am not normally an excitable person but those overtime games sure increase my blood pressure. It is interesting to experience what my high school basketball coach must have went through when we won everything by only a couple of points.

We have one more tourney in Dryden at the end of month. The Dryden tournament is Public School board run and while we probably wouldn't win it all anyway we actually can't win it regardless. The Public board invites the Dryden and Sioux Lookout Catholic teams but in the end we can't be crowned champions. You would think that there could just be one tournament or series of tournaments among all the school boards in the region where all schools could participate and have a chance of winning. Gotta love politics. One day I foresee the demise of all school boards. The Ontario provincial government was pressured heavily in the last election about having separate school boards for Catholic schools because they would not provide school funding to create boards for other religious sects. In time I think there will be more pressure from these other religious groups and the government may just decide to have one system with no school boards at all. Problem solved right?

Don't forget to get your newly Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival Flags. Large and small. I don't have a picture of one but you can see it up on the flag pole at the Travel Information Centre when you drive by. The flags are quite nice.

Well I guess I gotta get back on the treadmill before my Bocce playoff tonight at the Legion. I was at McDonalds yesterday so I gotta burn some calories. FYI, my final weigh at work for our six week contest was 215lbs. I lost 17 pounds. Not to shabby for a fat lazy guy. I plan to continue the exercise thing.
